Description: Defines Nokia Tropic GMPLS SNMP notifications for optical transport control plane events.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TROPIC-GMPLS-NOTIFICATION-MIB?
This module defines the SNMP notifications (traps) that Nokia's Tropic Networks optical transport platform generates for events occurring in its GMPLS control plane, such as changes in control-plane interface state, signaling adjacency establishment/loss, or path setup/teardown/restoration events. As a notification-only module, its data is event-driven rather than polled — it complements the TROPIC-GMPLS-CPIF-MIB's configuration/status objects by pushing real-time alerts when the state of a monitored control-plane object changes. Its role in monitoring is squarely on the fault/event side: it allows an NMS to be notified immediately of GMPLS control-plane software faults (interface down, signaling failure, path restoration triggered) instead of relying purely on periodic polling. It has a direct dependency on the objects and interface identifiers defined in TROPIC-GMPLS-CPIF-MIB, and conceptually on the IETF GMPLS notification framework it adapts. It is deployed in carrier DWDM/optical transport networks using GMPLS-based dynamic provisioning, typically integrated into a fault-management/NMS trap receiver after a TROPIC-GMPLS-NOTIFICATION-MIB download is loaded into the trap-processing system.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TROPIC-GMPLS-NOTIFICATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples
This module defines trap/notification objects only (no polled runtime data of its own); when a GMPLS control-plane interface defined in TROPIC-GMPLS-CPIF-MIB changes state (e.g., a signaling adjacency drop or an automated path restoration event), the corresponding notification here is sent to the NMS so operators are alerted to control-plane faults without waiting for the next poll cycle.
