Description: Manages Trapeze Networks basic WLAN controller configuration and fundamental operational parameters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TRAPEZE-NETWORKS-BASIC-MIB?

TRAPEZE-NETWORKS-BASIC-MIB is a vendor MIB from Trapeze Networks defining core identification and configuration objects for its wireless LAN controller (Access Controller) product line. It exposes basic system data: hardware serial number, running software major/minor version and version string, mobility domain name and seed IP, mobility-domain member table, and license entitlement information. Its monitoring value covers both hardware identification (serial number) and software status (running firmware version, mobility domain membership/health), which administrators use to confirm fleet-wide firmware consistency and licensing compliance across controllers participating in the same mobility domain. It works alongside other Trapeze MIBs such as the port and chassis-registration MIBs to give a fuller picture of the controller. It is deployed in enterprise WLAN environments running Trapeze (later Juniper/Belden) wireless switches organized into mobility domains for seamless roaming, making TRAPEZE-NETWORKS-BASIC-MIB SNMP monitoring essential for verifying firmware consistency across the domain.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TRAPEZE-NETWORKS-BASIC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Trapeze Networks wireless LAN controller (Access Controller)

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll trpzSwMajorVersionNumber/trpzSwMinorVersionNumber and trpzVersionString to confirm all controllers in a mobility domain (trpzMobilityDomainName) are running consistent firmware versions. The trpzMobilityMemberTable/trpzMobilityMemberEntry would be checked to verify all expected member controllers (trpzMobilityMemberEntryAddr) are present and reachable relative to the trpzMobilitySeedIp. A controller missing from the member table, or reporting a different trpzVersionString than its peers, would indicate a mobility domain or firmware inconsistency needing attention; trpzLicenseInfoTable would additionally be checked for license entitlement status.

What Can Be Monitored

  • hardware serial number
  • running software version
  • mobility domain name and seed IP

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using trpzMobilityMemberTableSize OID:

Select a Trapeze Networks wireless LAN controller, Access Controller (serial number/firmware-version/mobility-domain status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type trpzMobilityMemberTableSize into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The number of entries in the mobility member table, trpzMobilityMemberTable. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the count changes from its expected baseline, since that would indicate the underlying set of items changed unexpectedly. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
