Description: MIB for system-level information including firmware, FPGA, OS, and modem version strings on Trango APEX wireless backhaul units

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TRANGO-APEX-SYS-MIB?

TRANGO-APEX-SYS-MIB is a Trango Systems MIB that reports system-level identification and version information for the Apex family of wireless backhaul radios. It exposes the unit type along with firmware, FPGA, OS, PIC, and modem software versions, plus a corresponding set of previous/backup version values for each. Its monitoring emphasis is squarely on software status: operators use it to confirm what firmware and sub-component versions are currently running, verify a recent upgrade actually took effect, and compare against the previous version to track rollback history. It is a companion MIB to TRANGO-APEX-MODEM-MIB, together covering both the link-quality and the software/version aspects of the same radio. It is deployed on Trango Apex wireless backhaul radios used by WISPs and cellular operators for point-to-point microwave links. Engineers can download the TRANGO-APEX-SYS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TRANGO-APEX-SYS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Trango Systems Apex wireless backhaul radio

Monitoring Examples

sysUnitType identifies the hardware variant of the radio, while sysFWVer, sysFPGAVer, sysOSVer, sysPICVer, and sysModemVer report the currently active firmware, FPGA image, OS, PIC, and modem software versions. The paired sysFWPreVer, sysFPGAPreVer, sysOSPreVer, sysPICPreVer, and sysRFMPreVer objects retain the prior versions, letting an admin verify a firmware upgrade actually took effect across all sub-components or identify a partially failed upgrade where one component still reports its previous version.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using sysUnitType OID:

Select a Trango Systems Apex wireless backhaul radio (firmware/FPGA/OS version status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type sysUnitType into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the unit Type. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is an INTEGER-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value changes unexpectedly, since which type is correct for this unit depends on your redundancy setup and an unplanned change often indicates a failover or misconfiguration. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
