Category: Switch and Device Management

Description: Manages TP-Link switch Network Topology Discovery Protocol hop count and interval configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TPLINK-NTDP-MIB?

TPLINK-NTDP-MIB is a TP-Link enterprise MIB for managing the Network Topology Discovery Protocol (NTDP) on TP-Link's managed switch line, a vendor feature used to discover neighboring devices and topology across a Layer 2 network. It is primarily a configuration module, expected to expose settings for enabling NTDP, the hop count (topology discovery depth), and the discovery interval timer that controls how often topology information is refreshed. Administrators use it to monitor and control the software-level topology-discovery behavior of a switch -- confirming NTDP is enabled, checking the configured hop count reaches the intended depth of the network, and verifying the discovery interval matches operational needs -- rather than exposing hardware sensors, indirectly supporting network-wide topology visibility tools built on NTDP discovery data. It is a self-contained vendor protocol MIB, conceptually similar to (though not standardized like) LLDP/CDP-style neighbor discovery. It is typically deployed on TP-Link managed switches in SMB or enterprise LAN environments using cluster/topology management features. Engineers can download the TPLINK-NTDP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPLINK-NTDP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • TP-Link managed switch

Monitoring Examples

No sample objects were provided for this module, so specific object names cannot be cited; in general, an administrator would expect to poll an NTDP-enabled status object and the configured hop-count and discovery-interval objects to confirm topology discovery is active and covering the intended number of switch hops, which would explain why certain distant switches are or are not appearing in a topology map.

What Can Be Monitored

  • NTDP enable status
  • topology discovery hop count
  • discovery interval
