Category: Access Control and Authentication

Description: Manages TP-Link switch port isolation groups to restrict inter-port Layer 2 forwarding.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TPLINK-PORTISOLATION-MIB?

TPLINK-PORTISOLATION-MIB is a TP-Link proprietary module for configuring port isolation groups on their managed switches, a Layer 2 security feature that restricts which ports are allowed to forward traffic to each other regardless of VLAN membership. It exposes configuration objects defining isolation group membership, letting administrators specify sets of ports that can or cannot communicate directly at Layer 2. Its monitoring purpose is configuration/policy verification: confirming that isolation group assignments match the intended security design, such as ensuring guest or public-access ports cannot reach each other or internal management ports. It works alongside the switch's port and VLAN configuration objects for full context on affected interfaces. It is deployed on TP-Link switches in scenarios like hotel, dormitory, or public Wi-Fi access-port deployments where inter-port traffic must be blocked for privacy and security. Engineers can download the TPLINK-PORTISOLATION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPLINK-PORTISOLATION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • TP-Link managed switch

Monitoring Examples

No sample object or table names were provided in the source for this module, so a concrete polling example naming specific objects cannot be honestly constructed here; in practice an administrator would be expected to poll the port isolation group membership table to confirm which ports are grouped together, flagging any port unexpectedly included in (or excluded from) an isolation group as a policy misconfiguration risk.
