Category: Access Control and Authentication

Description: Manages TP-Link switch port security MAC address limits, sticky learning, and violation actions.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TPLINK-PORTSECURITY-MIB?

TPLINK-PORTSECURITY-MIB is a TP-Link vendor-specific MIB for configuring port security on managed switches, controlling maximum learned MAC addresses per port, sticky MAC learning, and the violation action taken when the limit is exceeded. This is primarily an access-control/configuration MIB, but its violation-related objects effectively report a security/software event status, whether a port has hit its MAC limit and what action (shutdown, restrict, protect) was triggered, functioning like a fault indicator for that port. It has no strong standards dependency beyond general switch MAC-table concepts, being a TP-Link-specific hardening feature. It's deployed on TP-Link managed switches at the network access edge to prevent MAC flooding or rogue device attachment, and the TPLINK-PORTSECURITY-MIB download lets administrators load it directly into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPLINK-PORTSECURITY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • TP-Link managed switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator sets a maximum MAC count and enables sticky learning on an access port, then monitors the port's security violation counter and current learned-MAC count. A rising violation counter, or a port that has transitioned to a shutdown/restricted state, indicates an unauthorized device or MAC-spoofing attempt was detected on that port, prompting investigation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • maximum allowed MAC addresses per port
  • sticky MAC learning state
  • port security violation action
  • violation event count
  • current learned MAC count per port
