Category: Access Control and Authentication

Description: Manages TP-Link switch ARP defense rate limiting and attack protection configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TPLINK-ARP-DEFEND-MIB?

TPLINK-ARP-DEFEND-MIB is a TP-Link proprietary MIB (extending TPLINK-ARP-INSPECTION-MIB) implementing ARP Defend, a feature that rate-limits ARP packets per port and can automatically disable a port that exceeds the configured rate — a defense against ARP-flood attacks. Its configuration table, keyed by port, records enable state, the ARP-rate threshold, resulting port state, and whether the port is part of a link-aggregation group. As a configuration/security MIB it lets an administrator confirm ARP Defend is enabled with an appropriate rate threshold and check whether a port has been auto-disabled due to excessive ARP traffic. It is deployed on TP-Link managed switches. Engineers can download the TPLINK-ARP-DEFEND-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPLINK-ARP-DEFEND-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • TP-Link managed switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator checks tpArpDefendConfigState after a port unexpectedly stops passing traffic, to confirm whether ARP Defend auto-disabled it in response to an ARP flood.
