Category: IPv6 Management, Network Interface Management

Description: Manages TP-Link switch interface IPv6 address assignment and prefix configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TPLINK-IPV6ADDR-MIB?

TPLINK-IPV6ADDR-MIB is a TP-Link vendor-specific MIB for configuring and reporting IPv6 addressing on switch management and routed interfaces, including manual address assignment and prefix/subnet configuration. It is primarily a Layer-3 configuration MIB, exposing per-interface IPv6 address and prefix-length data rather than hardware sensors, but it lets an administrator confirm the software/network-stack status of an interface, i.e., whether an expected IPv6 address is actually bound and valid. It complements the standard IETF IP-MIB/IPv6 address tables with TP-Link's own vendor-specific representation for switches that don't fully implement the standard table structure. It's deployed on TP-Link managed switches in networks transitioning to or running dual-stack IPv4/IPv6, where TPLINK-IPV6ADDR-MIB SNMP monitoring confirms expected addresses remain correctly bound to interfaces.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPLINK-IPV6ADDR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • TP-Link managed switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator queries the interface IPv6 address table to confirm a management VLAN interface has the expected global or link-local address bound, along with its prefix length. If the address entry is missing or shows an unexpected/tentative state, it indicates a misconfiguration or duplicate-address-detection failure on that interface, prompting a check of the assigned prefix and address type.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-interface IPv6 address assignment
  • address prefix length/type
  • address configuration mode (manual/auto)
  • interface IPv6 enable state
