Category: VLAN Management
Description: Manages TP-Link switch 802.1Q VLAN creation, port tagging, and membership configuration.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TPLINK-DOT1Q-VLAN-MIB?
TPLINK-DOT1Q-VLAN-MIB is a TP-Link private MIB for managing IEEE 802.1Q VLAN configuration on their switches, letting the switch divide a physical LAN into multiple logical broadcast domains for performance and security reasons. It exposes per-port VLAN tagging configuration and a VLAN definition table describing each configured VLAN's membership and settings. Its role is primarily configuration-status monitoring: verifying that ports are assigned to the correct VLANs and tagging mode (tagged/untagged), and that VLAN definitions match the intended network segmentation, rather than reporting hardware sensor data. It directly parallels the IEEE 802.1Q standard and IETF Q-BRIDGE-MIB conventions for VLAN management, though implemented as a vendor-specific table structure. It is deployed on TP-Link managed switches in any LAN environment requiring traffic segmentation, such as separating voice, data, and guest networks. Engineers can download the TPLINK-DOT1Q-VLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TPLINK-DOT1Q-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- TP-Link managed switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll vlanConfigTable (vlanConfigEntry) to enumerate configured VLAN IDs and their properties, and vlanPortConfigTable (vlanPortConifgEntry) to confirm each switch port's VLAN membership and tagging mode. If a port unexpectedly shows membership in the wrong VLAN or an incorrect tagging setting, these tables reveal a misconfiguration that could let traffic leak between segments meant to be isolated.
What Can Be Monitored
- VLAN definitions and IDs
- per-port VLAN membership
- per-port tagging mode (tagged/untagged)
