Description: Monitors TOPSEC firewall network connection state tables, session counts, and traffic flow status.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is TOS-NETSTATE?
TOS-NETSTATE is a vendor-specific MIB module for TOPSEC network security appliances, covering the firewall/UTM technology area. It exposes network state data such as MAC address tables and connection/session tracking information reflecting the live traffic passing through the device. Administrators use it to monitor operational software status: how many active sessions and MAC entries the firewall is currently tracking, which can reveal session table exhaustion, unexpected MAC flapping, or traffic surges indicative of a fault or attack. The module appears self-contained, referencing only basic SMI conventions rather than a broader standard MIB hierarchy. It is typically deployed alongside other TOPSEC-specific MIBs in enterprise or carrier perimeter security monitoring setups. Engineers can download the TOS-NETSTATE file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TOS-NETSTATE. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- TOPSEC firewall/UTM appliance
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll the conceptual MAC table described in the module to see currently learned MAC addresses and their state on the firewall's internal segments. A sudden drop in table entries or an unusually high count could indicate a network state anomaly such as a broadcast storm, link flap, or an ARP/MAC spoofing event. Because sample objects were not available for this MIB, exact table and column names cannot be confirmed beyond the described conceptual MAC table.
What Can Be Monitored
- MAC address table entries
- session/connection state
- traffic flow status
- network state changes
