Description: Defines managed objects for IEEE 802.5 end-stations to manage source routing on Token Ring networks.

What Is TOKENRING-STATION-SR-MIB?

TOKENRING-STATION-SR-MIB is an IETF standards-track MIB (RFC 1749, dot5SrMIB under mib-2) that models source-route management for end-stations on IEEE 802.5 Token Ring networks. Its single table, dot5SrRouteTable, holds the station's Routing Information Field (RIF) database — one entry per destination MAC address discovered via Single Path or All Paths Explorer frames — recording the Routing Control field and the embedded bridge/ring ID sequence that defines the source route to that destination, along with row lifecycle status. While primarily a configuration/topology-discovery MIB rather than a counter-heavy statistics MIB, monitoring it reveals whether a station has learned valid source routes to its peers and whether those routes remain active, important for diagnosing connectivity failures or suboptimal (longer) paths on source-routed segments. It depends on RFC1213-MIB for interface indexing and has no vendor-specific dependencies, applying to any IEEE 802.5 Token Ring end-station implementing source routing, and the TOKENRING-STATION-SR-MIB MIB remains useful today mainly for maintaining legacy Token Ring infrastructure.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TOKENRING-STATION-SR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB (RFC 1749), applicable to IEEE 802.5 Token Ring end-stations from any manufacturer

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls dot5SrRouteTable for a given ifIndex/destination pair to inspect the embedded bridge/ring ID sequence and dot5SrRouteStatus; a route stuck in a non-active status, or a route descriptor that grows longer over time for the same destination, would indicate the direct path was lost and traffic is now traversing a longer, less efficient source route.

What Can Be Monitored

  • source route table entries per destination MAC
  • routing control field values
  • embedded bridge/ring ID sequence (route path)
  • route row status (active/lifecycle)
