Category: Transition Networks Media Converters, VLAN Management

Description: Manages Transition Networks private VLAN community and isolated port association.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-PRIVATE-VLAN-MIB?

This Transition Networks MIB manages Private VLANs, a Layer 2 isolation feature that lets ports within the same VLAN be restricted from communicating with each other except through designated promiscuous ports. It exposes private-VLAN membership tables and port-isolation tables that map ports to community/isolated roles within a private VLAN. It supports monitoring of the switch's Layer 2 security/software configuration status, letting an admin verify that isolated ports are correctly prevented from inter-communicating and that private VLAN membership matches the intended network segmentation design. There is no explicit dependency stated beyond the base TN VLAN object hierarchy this module extends. It is typically deployed on Transition Networks managed switches in multi-tenant or security-sensitive environments requiring port-level traffic isolation within a shared VLAN, and administrators commonly load it into a TN-PRIVATE-VLAN-MIB MIB Browser session to review the isolation tables directly.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-PRIVATE-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Transition Networks managed switches

Monitoring Examples

An admin would check the tnPVlanMembershipTable (tnPVlanMembershipEntry) for a given tnPVlanMembershipPVlanId to confirm which tnPVlanMembershipPortMember ports belong to it, then cross-check the tnPVlanPortIsolationTable (tnPVlanPortIsolationEntry) for tnPVlanPortIsolationPortMember to verify isolation is enforced as expected. If two supposedly isolated ports can still reach each other, a misconfigured tnPVlanMembershipRowStatus entry is a likely cause. This module is purely configuration/status oriented, with no traffic counters.

What Can Be Monitored

  • private VLAN membership
  • port isolation assignments
  • private VLAN row status
