Category: QoS, Transition Networks Media Converters

Description: Manages Transition Networks hierarchical QoS scheduler hierarchy and policy configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TN-HQOS-MIB?

This Transition Networks proprietary MIB manages Hierarchical Quality of Service (HQoS) scheduling on TN devices, controlling how traffic is scheduled and shaped across a hierarchy of interfaces and sub-queues. It exposes per-interface HQoS configuration -- scheduling mode, DWRR (Deficit Weighted Round Robin) queue count, and per-HQoS-instance shaper enable/rate and minimum-rate settings. Its monitoring relevance is primarily configuration/software-behavior status: tnHqosConfigInterfaceHqosShaperEnable and tnHqosConfigInterfaceHqosShaperRate reveal whether traffic shaping is active and at what rate, which is essential when diagnosing unexpected packet drops or congestion on an interface, since a misconfigured or disabled shaper can cause bursts to overwhelm downstream equipment. As a device-specific MIB it relies on generic SNMP/QoS conventions rather than a specific IETF standards MIB. It's typically deployed on Transition Networks managed switches/media converters providing tiered bandwidth guarantees to multiple traffic classes or subscribers over a shared interface, and administrators can perform a TN-HQOS-MIB download to load the module into their SNMP management software.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TN-HQOS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Transition Networks managed switch/media converter

Monitoring Examples

An operator checks tnHqosConfigInterfaceTable / tnHqosConfigInterfaceEntry keyed by tnHqosConfigInterfaceIfIndex to confirm tnHqosConfigInterfaceSchMode matches the intended scheduling discipline, then drills into tnHqosConfigInterfaceHqosTable / tnHqosConfigInterfaceHqosEntry (indexed by tnHqosConfigInterfaceHqosHqosId) to check tnHqosConfigInterfaceHqosShaperEnable, tnHqosConfigInterfaceHqosShaperRate and tnHqosConfigInterfaceHqosMinRate. An unexpected drop in throughput on a subscriber interface would prompt review of tnHqosConfigInterfaceHqosDwrrCount to see whether the DWRR queue weighting is starving a particular traffic class.

What Can Be Monitored

  • scheduling mode per interface
  • shaper enable/rate per HQoS instance
  • minimum guaranteed rate
  • DWRR queue count
