This boolean specifies whether a MEP generates AIS (Alarm Indication Signal) frames from its Maintenance Entity Group (MEG) when it detects a fault. An admin enables this so a fault detected at a lower-level MEP is proactively signaled upward to higher-level maintenance points, suppressing redundant alarms at those levels instead of leaving each layer to independently time out. Enabling AIS on a service's client-side MEP is a common way to make a server-layer link failure surface quickly as a single, clear alarm rather than many uncorrelated ones.
