What Is TERAWAVE-ces-MIB?

TERAWAVE-ces-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Terawave Communications for its DSL/ATM access platforms, covering Circuit Emulation Service (CES) connections that carry PDH (T1/E1-style) traffic over ATM. It exposes configuration and status data for CES connections -- ATM VPI/VCI bindings, CBR service parameters, clocking mode, cell delay variation tolerance, and buffer sizing -- placing it in the interfaces/configuration and performance-counter categories. Monitoring these objects is used to confirm the software/hardware status of emulated circuits: clock synchronization mode, buffer fill levels, and cell delay variation tolerance are key indicators of whether a CES circuit is maintaining timing integrity, with drift or buffer over/underrun signaling service-affecting faults. It builds on the ATM Forum's CES specification and standard ATM MIB conventions (reflected in its atmForum/atmForumNetworkManagement object identifiers). It is typically deployed on Terawave DSL/ATM access multiplexers delivering legacy TDM circuits over an ATM access network, where TERAWAVE-ces-MIB SNMP monitoring helps confirm circuit timing integrity.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TERAWAVE-ces-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • CES connection VPI/VCI mapping
  • CBR service type
  • clock mode (adaptive/synchronous)
  • cell delay variation tolerance
  • buffer size/fill
  • partial cell fill setting

Supported Devices

  • Terawave DSL/ATM access platforms and multiplexers

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll atmfCESConTable (via atmfCESConTableEntry, keyed by atmfCESCbrIndex and atmfCESAtmIndex/atmfCESAtmVpi/atmfCESAtmVci) to check atmfCESCbrClockMode and atmfCESCdvtRxT, revealing whether a circuit is running in adaptive or synchronous clocking and whether its cell delay variation tolerance is within bounds. Watching atmfCESBufMaxSize alongside actual buffer occupancy would reveal a circuit nearing buffer exhaustion, an early warning of timing slips or bit errors on the emulated PDH circuit before customer-visible service degradation occurs.
