Category: Teldat Router Management, Teldat Trap Notifications

Description: Defines Teldat router IP protocol event trap notifications.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is TELDAT-TRAP-IP-MIB?

The TELDAT-TRAP-IP-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP notification module for Teldat routers' core IP protocol subsystem, defining traps for anomalous IP packet handling events. It captures event-specific detail such as source/destination IP addresses, IP version, header and packet length, and checksum values versus expected checksum, rather than steady-state IP statistics. Its monitoring purpose is fault detection at the network/software layer — surfacing malformed, corrupted, or unexpected IP traffic (e.g. checksum mismatches) hitting a specific router interface, reflecting the health of the router's IP forwarding software rather than physical hardware. It parallels concepts in the standard IP-MIB/RFC 4293 IP statistics but is implemented as Teldat's own enterprise notification set. It is deployed on Teldat routers as a diagnostic aid for engineers investigating packet corruption, spoofing attempts, or malformed traffic on a given interface, and engineers can download the TELDAT-TRAP-IP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in TELDAT-TRAP-IP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Teldat router (IP forwarding subsystem)

Monitoring Examples

A trap with ip4-checksum and ip4-expected-checksum differing, alongside ip4-source-ip-address and ip4-destination-ip-address, flags a corrupted or tampered IP packet on the reporting interface. Similarly, ip3-header-length and ip3-packet-length let an operator spot packets with inconsistent length fields, a sign of malformed or malicious traffic, while ip1-interface identifies which router interface saw the originating ip1-source-ip-address/ip1-destination-ip-address pair.

What Can Be Monitored

  • source/destination IP address
  • IP header/packet length
  • checksum vs expected checksum
  • IP version number
  • affected interface
