What Is SO-MIB?
SO-MIB is the enterprise-specific root MIB for Smartoptics, a vendor of optical transport and DWDM/CWDM networking equipment, establishing the top of their private enterprise OID subtree. As a root/namespace MIB it does not itself define runtime data objects; its purpose is purely structural, anchoring the object identifiers used by Smartoptics' more specific MIB modules that cover wavelength parameters, transceiver status, and performance monitoring. Consequently it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software status — that capability lives in child MIBs built under this OID tree, such as ones for optical power levels, port/wavelength configuration, and alarm status. Because it only defines the enterprise root, it depends on SNMPv2-SMI for the enterprises arc and is a prerequisite that other Smartoptics MIBs import from. It appears in the MIB tree of any deployment using Smartoptics optical networking gear, serving as the namespace anchor rather than a source of monitored data. Engineers can download the SO-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SO-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples
No sample objects were provided, and as a root enterprise-OID module this MIB defines no runtime tables or scalars, so no monitoring scenario can be honestly described — it simply provides the namespace under which other Smartoptics MIBs define their objects.
