Category: SCTE HMS Cable Headend
Description: Identifies SCTE HMS headend equipment type, vendor, and firmware revision.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is SCTE-HMS-HEADENDIDENT-MIB?
SCTE-HMS-HEADENDIDENT-MIB is part of the SCTE Hybrid Fiber-Coax Management System (HMS) standard used in cable television headend and indoor optical equipment, defining the root OID under scteHmsTree plus textual conventions shared by related indoor-device MIBs (optical transmitters, receivers, amplifiers). Rather than defining bulk runtime tables itself, it establishes identification-style data - equipment type, vendor, and firmware revision - that device-specific SCTE HMS MIBs use to report what a piece of headend equipment is and what software it runs. Its monitoring role is therefore squarely about software/hardware identity status: confirming which optical device model and firmware version is installed lets an operator verify inventory accuracy and check whether a unit needs a firmware upgrade. As a foundational module, other SCTE HMS optical-device MIBs explicitly import its textual conventions and OID root, so it has a clear dependency relationship within the broader SCTE HMS MIB suite rather than standing alone. It is deployed in cable operator headend facilities as the identification layer underlying SNMP management of hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) optical transmission equipment. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the SCTE-HMS-HEADENDIDENT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SCTE-HMS-HEADENDIDENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- cable headend optical transmission equipment (transmitters, receivers, amplifiers)
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB (SCTE HMS), not tied to a specific manufacturer
Monitoring Examples
No sample runtime objects were provided for this module, and it is primarily an identity/root and textual-convention module rather than a data-bearing one; in practice, dependent SCTE HMS MIBs would expose equipment-type, vendor, and firmware-revision objects built on the conventions defined here, letting a headend NMS confirm exactly which optical transmitter or amplifier model and firmware version is installed.
What Can Be Monitored
- headend equipment type
- equipment vendor/manufacturer
- firmware revision
