What Is SCTE-HMS-ROOTS?
SCTE-HMS-ROOTS is part of the SCTE Hardware Management System (HMS) standards suite for cable television headend and hub-site equipment, defining the top-level OID hierarchy under which HMS-compliant MIB modules register their objects. It provides named root identifiers for major functional categories such as general system properties, alarms, common/shared objects, power supplies, and fan/environmental objects, but does not itself expose live data values. Because it is a structural module, it plays an indirect role in monitoring hardware status: the category roots it defines (alarms, power supply, general/environmental) are exactly where other HMS MIBs place their temperature, power, and fault-related objects, so this module is the map to that data rather than the data itself. Numerous SCTE HMS MIB modules covering alarms, power supplies, and general equipment status depend on this root structure. It is deployed across cable operator headend and hub facilities employing SCTE HMS-compliant SNMP agents. Engineers auditing cable headend equipment often consult the SCTE-HMS-ROOTS OID list first to identify which functional branch -- alarms, power, or fan -- a given OID under a dependent MIB actually falls into.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in SCTE-HMS-ROOTS. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- cable television headend/hub-site equipment (SCTE HMS-compliant)
Monitoring Examples
This module defines only named OID root nodes (propertyIdent, alarmsIdent, commonIdent, psIdent, fnIdent, genIdent) under which other SCTE HMS MIBs register their power supply, fan, alarm, and general equipment objects; it has no runtime data objects of its own, so no concrete polling scenario applies to this module directly, but psIdent and fnIdent hint at where power-supply and fan health data would be found in dependent MIBs.
