What Is RETIX-METROLAN-MIB?
RETIX-METROLAN-MIB is a legacy enterprise MIB from Retix, an early-1990s networking equipment vendor, covering their MetroLAN family of Ethernet bridges. It defines configuration objects for bridge operation and the forwarding/filtering database used to switch Ethernet frames between ports. Its monitoring role centers on the operational status of the bridging function -- port up/down state, forwarding table entries/learning activity, and bridge-level configuration -- rather than deep hardware environmental sensors, reflecting the more limited management model of early Ethernet bridge products. As an Ethernet bridge MIB from that era it would typically be used alongside, or as a private-enterprise supplement to, the IETF Bridge MIB (RFC 1493 / dot1dBridge) rather than replacing it. It would have been deployed on Retix MetroLAN Ethernet bridges used in early enterprise LAN interconnection and metro-area bridging deployments. Engineers can download the RETIX-METROLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RETIX-METROLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
What Can Be Monitored
- bridge port status
- forwarding/filtering database entries
- bridge configuration parameters
Supported Devices
- Retix MetroLAN Ethernet bridges (legacy, discontinued vendor)
Monitoring Examples
No sample_objects or module_desc text were provided for this module in the available source, so specific object or table names cannot be responsibly cited; based on the short description, a network administrator would be expected to poll bridge forwarding-table and port-status objects to confirm learned MAC addresses and port states, but exact identifiers are not confirmed from available data.
