What Is RC-POM-MIB?

RC-POM-MIB is a Nortel Networks (Rapid-City software) proprietary MIB implementing Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) for pluggable optical modules (SFP/XFP). Its module table, keyed by port, records a DDM-status bitmask, calibration type, power-measurement type, connector type, vendor name/part number/revision/serial number/date code, PEC, CLEI, DDM-support flag, auxiliary-monitoring flags, wavelength, and temperature/voltage with high/low alarm and warning thresholds. As a hardware-performance MIB it lets an administrator watch an optical module's real-time temperature and voltage against vendor-defined alarm/warning thresholds to catch a degrading transceiver. It is deployed on Nortel (Rapid-City-based) switches with DDM-capable pluggable optics. Engineers can download the RC-POM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RC-POM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • pluggable-optics temperature/voltage vs. alarm/warning thresholds

Supported Devices

  • Nortel (Rapid-City-based) switches with DDM-capable pluggable optics

Monitoring Examples

An administrator monitors rcPlugOptModTemperature against rcPlugOptModTemperatureHighWarningThreshold to catch a degrading optical transceiver before it triggers an alarm on a Nortel Rapid-City switch.
