Description: Documents Ericsson SmartEdge SNMP agent capabilities for the system CPU and memory resources MIB on SmartEdge series BRAS.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RBN-SYS-RESOURCES-CAP?
RBN-SYS-RESOURCES-CAP is an Ericsson AGENT-CAPABILITIES module describing SmartEdge/SSR BRAS support for the Redback proprietary System Resources MIB, which covers overall system CPU and memory resource usage. It defines no objects itself; it documents which CPU/memory resource groups the SmartEdge SNMP agent implements for a given SEOS release and product family. Its value for monitoring is confirming that CPU load and memory utilization objects (system-wide resource health indicators critical for spotting an overloaded control plane) are actually available for polling on the platform. It is explicitly a capabilities statement for the underlying (Redback) System Resources MIB rather than an IETF standard. It is used as reference documentation for SmartEdge MSER, SM, and SSR platforms to confirm CPU/memory monitoring coverage before deployment. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the RBN-SYS-RESOURCES-CAP file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-SYS-RESOURCES-CAP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Ericsson/Redback SmartEdge Multi-service Edge Router (MSER)
- SmartEdge Metro Ethernet (SM) platform
- Smart Service Router (SSR)
Monitoring Examples
With no sample_objects listed, there is nothing to poll from this capabilities module directly; an operator instead checks it to confirm the base System Resources MIB's CPU-utilization and memory-usage objects are implemented before polling them to watch for a control-plane CPU spike caused by, for example, a routing protocol flap or a DoS-style traffic pattern hitting the BRAS. Confirming this capability first avoids assuming resource visibility that a given SEOS version may not yet provide.
What Can Be Monitored
- System Resources MIB group support
- CPU utilization visibility
- system memory usage visibility
