Category: Storage

Description: Manages RAID controller configuration, volume groups, and physical drive inventory.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RAIDMANAGER-MIB?

RAIDMANAGER-MIB is a vendor/product enterprise MIB for managing RAID storage controllers, covering configuration and inventory of RAID volume groups and physical drives. It defines RAID controller configuration, logical volume/volume-group definitions, and physical drive inventory and status. It is squarely a hardware status monitoring MIB: it exposes disk/drive health and RAID array state such as degraded, rebuilding, or failed, letting administrators detect a failed or predictive-failure disk, a degraded array, or a rebuild in progress. It is typically deployed alongside the host system's standard MIB-II/HOST-RESOURCES-MIB for overall server monitoring, complementing it with storage-specific detail those generic MIBs do not provide. It is deployed on servers or storage arrays equipped with hardware RAID controllers in data center environments. Engineers can download the RAIDMANAGER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RAIDMANAGER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • server or storage array with hardware RAID controller

Monitoring Examples

No sample object names were supplied for this MIB; based on its description it would be expected to expose a physical-drive table and a volume-group table, each with a status field such as online, degraded, rebuilding, or failed. An admin would poll the drive status field to catch a failed or predictive-failure disk before an array becomes degraded, and check volume-group status to confirm a RAID rebuild completed successfully. Because no concrete object names are available, this scenario is described generically rather than tied to actual MIB identifiers.

What Can Be Monitored

  • RAID volume group configuration
  • physical drive inventory
  • drive/array health status
