Description: Monitors NFS server and client operation statistics via Sun Management Center agent on Solaris hosts.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NFSMON-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB2?
NFSMON-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB2 is a Sun Microsystems Sun Management Center (SunMC) agent MIB module that monitors NFS (Network File System) client and server statistics on Solaris hosts, focused specifically on mounted file system usage. It exposes a file system table reporting size, used space, available space, and percentage-used metrics (plus a rate-of-change value) per monitored NFS mount point. Its core monitoring purpose is tracking storage/disk-status style data for NFS-mounted file systems — essentially disk capacity and utilization trend monitoring — making it directly useful for capacity alerting on file servers and NFS clients. It notes explicit SNMPv2 context-handling caveats for multi-instance agents, implying dependency on SNMPv2-MIB context conventions and the broader Sun Management Center agent framework. It is deployed on Solaris servers and workstations managed via Sun Management Center in enterprise UNIX environments relying on NFS-mounted storage. Engineers can download the NFSMON-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB2 file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NFSMON-SUNMANAGEMENTCENTER-MIB2. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Solaris server/workstation running Sun Management Center agent
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll nfsmFileTable/nfsmFileEntry indexed by nfsmFileSystemEntryIndex to read nfsmFileSystemName and nfsmFileSystemMountPoint alongside nfsmFileSystemSize, nfsmFileSystemUsedSpace, and nfsmFileSystemAvailSpace. Tracking nfsmFileSystemPctUsedSpace climbing toward 100% along with a rising nfsmFileSystemPctUsedSpaceRate would provide early warning that an NFS-mounted file system is about to run out of space. Because SNMPv2 'context' is required to distinguish multiple agent instances, an SNMPv1-based manager would need to encode the context into the community string as documented, or risk polling the wrong instance's data.
What Can Be Monitored
- NFS mounted file system size
- used space
- available space
- percent space used
- rate of change of percent used
- mount point path
