What Is RADLAN-rndMng?

RADLAN-rndMng is a RADLAN (an embedded switch-software company later acquired by Marvell) private MIB providing general research-and-development style management and action objects used across RADLAN-based network devices from many OEM vendors. It exposes system identity, a generic action/command trigger with an associated file name (useful for firmware or config file operations), SNMP version/MIB version reporting, and CPU utilization statistics. As a monitoring tool it directly supports hardware/software health checks: it lets an administrator read current CPU load over the last second, last minute, and last five minutes, and it also exposes controls like reboot delay, tying performance monitoring to operational device management. It is a foundational RADLAN MIB that many other RADLAN-derived MIBs (such as the ACL or interface MIBs) build upon, since RADLAN's embedded switch OS is licensed to numerous white-label switch vendors. It is typically deployed on OEM/white-box managed switches built on the RADLAN embedded switch software stack. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the RADLAN-rndMng file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll rlCpuUtilDuringLastSecond, rlCpuUtilDuringLastMinute, and rlCpuUtilDuringLast5Minutes (after confirming rlCpuUtilEnable is set) to track CPU load trends, and a sustained high value across all three intervals would indicate the switch's control-plane CPU is overloaded, possibly from a broadcast storm or a management-plane process runaway. The rndAction and rndFileName objects could be used to trigger a device action such as a firmware operation referencing a specific file, while rndSysId identifies the device platform being managed.
