Category: Vendor: RADLAN/Cisco SB

Description: Adds Marvell-specific interface management parameters on top of the standard IF-MIB object set.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RADLAN-rlInterfaces?

RADLAN-rlInterfaces is a Marvell (RADLAN switch-chip reference software) proprietary MIB that adds switch-specific interface management parameters on top of the standard IF-MIB object set, via the swIfTable defined under swInterfaces (imported from RADLAN-MIB) and indexed in parallel with ifIndex. Its SwIfEntry sequence carries duplex and speed administration (swIfDuplexAdminMode/OperMode, swIfSpeedAdminMode, swIfSpeedDuplexAutoNegotiation and its local/remote capability BITS fields using the AutoNegCapabilitiesBits textual convention), flow-control and back-pressure mode, MDI/MDIX crossover state (swIfAdminMdix/OperMdix), and a port-security lock feature (swIfLockAdminStatus/OperStatus, swIfLockMaxMacAddresses, swIfLockMacAddressesCount, swIfSingleHostViolationAdminAction/OperAction and their trap-enable/trap-count/trap-frequency counterparts). Because these objects govern how a switch port negotiates and enforces link parameters and MAC-address limits rather than just counting traffic, monitoring it surfaces auto-negotiation mismatches and port-security lockout events that plain IF-MIB counters would miss. It depends on IF-MIB for ifIndex alignment and on Q-BRIDGE-MIB's PortList for group-oriented fields. It is deployed on switches built on RADLAN/Marvell switch-chip reference designs across many white-label and branded Ethernet switch product lines, and engineers commonly load the RADLAN-rlInterfaces MIB Browser view of this module alongside IF-MIB when diagnosing port-level issues.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RADLAN-rlInterfaces. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • switches based on Marvell (RADLAN) switch-chip reference software — various white-label and OEM Ethernet switch product lines

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls swIfOperSpeedDuplexAutoNegotiation and swIfSpeedDuplexNegotiationRemoteCapabilities to compare what the local port and its link partner negotiated, and watches swIfSingleHostViolationOperTrapCount for unexpected growth; a mismatch between local and remote negotiated capabilities combined with a rising violation trap count would point to a misbehaving or unauthorized device attached to a locked port.

What Can Be Monitored

  • duplex/speed admin and operational mode per interface
  • auto-negotiation local/remote capability bitmasks
  • MDI/MDIX crossover state
  • port security lock status and MAC address count
  • single-host violation action and trap counters
  • flow control and back-pressure operational mode
