All MIBs › RADLAN-SMON-MIB
Organization: Radlan - a MARVELL company. Marvell Semiconductor, Inc.
Last Updated: 2007-01-02
Category: Vendor: RADLAN/Cisco SB
Description: Manages switch monitoring (SMON) for per-port and per-VLAN traffic sampling and statistics.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is RADLAN-SMON-MIB?
RADLAN-SMON-MIB is a vendor-specific private MIB from RADLAN/Marvell implementing Switch Monitoring (SMON), which extends RMON-style traffic sampling to per-port and per-VLAN mirroring/copy functionality on the switch. It exposes objects controlling port-copy (mirroring) sessions, including whether the feature is supported (rlPortCopySupport), which mode a mirror session runs in (rlPortCopyMode, e.g. monitor-only vs. network), VLAN tagging behavior for copied traffic (rlPortCopyVlanTaggingTable/Entry), and whether copy sessions are currently enabled (rlPortCopySessionsEnabled). This is used for software/configuration status monitoring of the port-mirroring feature itself, confirming a diagnostic mirror session is active and configured with the intended VLAN tagging, rather than exposing hardware environmentals. It extends the standard RMON/SMON MIB concepts with vendor-specific port-copy semantics. It is typically deployed on Marvell/RADLAN-based managed switches when network engineers need to mirror traffic from a port or VLAN to an analyzer port for troubleshooting. Engineers can download the RADLAN-SMON-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RADLAN-SMON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Marvell (formerly RADLAN) managed Ethernet switches
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would check rlPortCopySessionsEnabled to confirm a mirroring session is currently active, and inspect rlPortCopyVlanTaggingTable (via rlPortCopyVlanTagging) to verify that copied traffic retains or strips VLAN tags as configured via rlPortCopyMode. This would reveal, for example, a mirror session that was configured but never enabled, explaining why an analyzer isn't receiving expected traffic.
What Can Be Monitored
- port mirroring session enabled state
- port copy mode (monitor-only vs network)
- VLAN tagging of mirrored traffic
- port-copy feature support
