All MIBs › ProxyCache-MIB
Category: Proxy and Caching
Description: Monitors web proxy cache hit ratios, object counts, bandwidth utilization, and cache storage configuration.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ProxyCache-MIB?
ProxyCache-MIB is a MIB used to manage and monitor an HTTP/web proxy caching service that offloads and accelerates web traffic. It exposes performance counters such as cache hit ratio and cached object counts, along with bandwidth utilization figures and cache storage configuration parameters. Its principal use is performance monitoring of the caching software: administrators track hit ratio and bandwidth savings to gauge cache effectiveness, and watch storage/configuration to catch a cache that is undersized or misconfigured. No explicit dependency on other standard MIBs is evident from the available description. It would typically be deployed on a dedicated proxy-cache appliance or software proxy server at a network edge to monitor how effectively it is offloading web traffic. Engineers can download the ProxyCache-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ProxyCache-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Microsoft Internet Information Server/Proxy Server, Windows NT era (web proxy cache statistics)
Monitoring Examples
No sample object names were provided for this module; in general terms an admin would poll the cache-hit-ratio and cached-object-count objects over time to see whether the cache is effectively offloading repeat requests, and check storage/configuration objects to detect a cache running low on space.
What Can Be Monitored
- cache hit ratio
- cached object count
- bandwidth utilization
- cache storage configuration
