pwMplsExpBitsMode

Module: PW-MPLS-STD-MIB

OID (symbolic): PW-MPLS-STD-MIB::pwMplsExpBitsMode

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.2.1.181.1.1.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: This object is set by the operator to determine the PW shim label EXP bits. The value of outerTunnel(1) is used where there is an outer tunnel -- pwMplsMplsType equals to mplsTe(0) or mplsNonTe(1). Note that in this case, there is no need to mark the PW label with the EXP bits, since the PW label is not visible to the intermediate nodes. If there is no outer tunnel, specifiedValue(2) SHOULD be used to indicate that the value is specified by pwMplsExpBits. Setting serviceDependant(3) indicates that the EXP bits are set based on a rule that is implementation specific.

What is pwMplsExpBitsMode?

This setting, chosen by the operator, determines how the EXP bits on the pseudowire's MPLS shim label are set: outerTunnel when an outer tunnel exists (since the PW label then isn't visible to intermediate nodes and marking isn't needed), specifiedValue to use the fixed value in pwMplsExpBits, or serviceDependant for an implementation-specific rule. Admins choose specifiedValue when there's no outer tunnel and they need explicit QoS marking on the exposed PW label. Setting pwMplsExpBitsMode to specifiedValue(2) on a PW-only (no outer tunnel) pseudowire ensures the PW label itself carries the correct EXP marking for QoS treatment.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.2.1.181.1.1.1.2
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> PW-MPLS-STD-MIB::pwMplsExpBitsMode

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.2.1.181.1.1.1.2.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> PW-MPLS-STD-MIB::pwMplsExpBitsMode.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.2.1.181.1.1.1.2.1 i <value>
