Description: Provides Lucent PSAX Packet Switch Access Exchange trap notifications for ATM access switch fault and alarm events.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is PSAX-TRAP-MIB?
PSAX-TRAP-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from Lucent Technologies (later Avaya) defining SNMP trap/notification objects for the PSAX (Packet Switch Access Exchange) family of ATM access switches. It is exclusively a fault and alarm notification module, generating events tied to line, card, and system-level conditions on the switch chassis rather than exposing a rich polling data tree of its own. Its monitoring value is in surfacing hardware and system health issues in near real time — chassis alarms, card faults, and ATM link/trunk failure conditions that would otherwise require constant polling to detect. It is designed to be used alongside the vendor's broader PSAX enterprise MIB set (which carries the chassis, slot, and ATM interface configuration objects that traps here reference) rather than any pure IETF standard. It is typically deployed in service-provider and enterprise ATM access networks where PSAX shelves are monitored centrally by an NMS for outage and degradation alerts. Engineers can download the PSAX-TRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PSAX-TRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Lucent/Avaya PSAX Packet Switch Access Exchange ATM switches
Monitoring Examples
Because this module's description text is only placeholder boilerplate and no concrete object names were captured, it should be treated primarily as a trap-carrier MIB: an NMS would register to receive its notifications to be alerted to PSAX chassis or ATM interface fault conditions as they happen. Without confirmed object names, specific polling scenarios cannot be described with confidence beyond generic alarm/clear trap reception.
What Can Be Monitored
- chassis/card fault alarms
- ATM interface/trunk failure events
