Category: VLAN Management

Description: Handles BATM Advanced Communication super VLAN (VLAN aggregation) setup, enabling IP address sharing across subscriber VLANs.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PRVT-SUPER-VLAN-MIB?

PRVT-SUPER-VLAN-MIB is a vendor-specific enterprise MIB from BATM Advanced Communication for configuring "super VLAN" (VLAN aggregation) functionality, which lets multiple subscriber VLANs share a single IP subnet on its Carrier Ethernet switches. It exposes per-interface super-VLAN configuration together with associated customer VLAN (CVlan) mapping tables and ring-port association tables. Monitoring value here is chiefly configuration/operational-status oriented: row-status fields reveal whether a super-VLAN or a customer VLAN mapping is active, inactive, or improperly provisioned, which helps diagnose broken subscriber connectivity. It sits in the same BATM PRVT enterprise tree as PRVT-ALARM-MIB and related modules and builds conceptually on standard 802.1Q VLAN tagging. It is typically deployed on BATM Carrier Ethernet access switches serving multiple subscriber VLANs over a shared IP uplink, such as in metro Ethernet access networks. Engineers can download the PRVT-SUPER-VLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PRVT-SUPER-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • BATM Advanced Communications / Telco Systems T-Metro Carrier Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

prvtSuperVlanIfTable/prvtSuperVlanIfEntry rows keyed by prvtSuperVlanIfIndex define a super-VLAN's prvtSuperVlanIfTargetPort and prvtSuperVlanIfRowStatus, while prvtSuperVlanIfCVlanTable/prvtSuperVlanIfCVlanEntry map individual customer prvtSuperVlanIfCVlanId values, with a prvtSuperVlanIfCVlanMask, into that super-VLAN. An admin troubleshooting a subscriber who cannot reach the network would check prvtSuperVlanIfCVlanRowStatus for that customer's VLAN mapping to confirm it is active, and inspect prvtSuperVlanIfRingPortTable entries if the switch sits in a ring topology.

What Can Be Monitored

  • super-VLAN configuration/row status
  • customer VLAN (CVlan) ID mapping
  • CVlan row status
  • target port assignment
  • ring port association
