Category: VLAN Management

Description: Manages BATM Advanced Communication IP VLAN configuration for routing between VLANs using switch virtual interfaces.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PRVT-SWITCH-IPVLAN-MIB?

This proprietary BATM Advanced Communication MIB manages "IP VLAN" configuration on BATM Layer-3 switches, i.e. the assignment of IP subnets to VLANs so that inter-VLAN routing can occur via switch virtual interfaces. Its data is configuration-oriented, describing which VLAN carries which IP subnet/interface rather than exposing traffic counters or hardware environmental readings. It is used to monitor the software-configuration status of the L3-switching feature — confirming that a VLAN has a correctly assigned IP interface and catching cases where an IP-VLAN binding is missing, duplicated, or in a non-operational row state, which would explain inter-VLAN routing failures. It builds on the same VLAN and IP-addressing concepts standardized in the IETF's Q-BRIDGE-MIB and IP-MIB, tailoring them to BATM's L3-switch implementation. It is deployed on BATM/Telco Systems L3 switches used at network edges and aggregation points where VLAN-based subnet segmentation with local routing is required. Engineers can download the PRVT-SWITCH-IPVLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PRVT-SWITCH-IPVLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • BATM/Telco Systems Layer 3 switch

Monitoring Examples

Since sample_objects is empty for this module, no real table/object names are available to anchor a concrete polling walkthrough; generally, an admin would expect to poll a VLAN-to-IP-subnet mapping table to verify each VLAN has the intended subnet/interface assigned and that the row is active, which would explain a VLAN that cannot route traffic if the mapping is missing or disabled.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VLAN-to-IP-subnet assignment
  • switch virtual interface status
  • IP VLAN row/provisioning state
