Description: Manages port group aggregation, trunk member assignments, and LACP configuration on D-Link network devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is PORTGROUP-MIB?
PORTGROUP-MIB is a D-Link proprietary enterprise MIB for managing port group aggregation on D-Link switches, covering the grouping of physical ports into trunks and LACP-based link aggregation configuration. Based on its module description ('structure of port group for the proprietary enterprise'), it exposes the logical grouping structure that maps member physical ports to an aggregated trunk interface, along with associated LACP settings. Its monitoring value is on interface/software configuration state: it lets an operator confirm which physical ports are currently members of a given trunk group and whether LACP negotiation is configured as expected, important for diagnosing a link-aggregation bundle that isn't passing its expected share of traffic or has a member port that failed to join. It works alongside the standard IEEE 802.3ad/802.1AX LACP model and the standard IF-MIB, providing the D-Link-specific view of trunk membership on top of those interface objects. It is deployed on D-Link switches wherever multiple physical links between two switches (or a switch and a server) are bundled into a single logical trunk for bandwidth and redundancy. Engineers can download the PORTGROUP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PORTGROUP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- D-Link switches
Monitoring Examples
No sample_objects were supplied for this module, so specific table/column names cannot be confirmed from source; consistent with the module's stated purpose, a realistic scenario would be polling the port-group/trunk membership table to confirm all expected physical ports are active members of a given aggregated link, and checking LACP-related status to catch a member port that has fallen out of the bundle (e.g., due to a cable fault or mismatched LACP configuration on the peer switch), which would reduce the effective bandwidth of the trunk without necessarily showing as a full outage.
What Can Be Monitored
- port group/trunk membership
- LACP aggregation configuration and status
