What Is PANASAS-ROOT-MIB?
PANASAS-ROOT-MIB is the root registration MIB for the Panasas enterprise, a maker of parallel/clustered storage systems (ActiveStor), and it exists to define the top-level OID subtree structure under which Panasas's other MIB modules register their objects. It does not itself carry detailed runtime data; instead it establishes branches for products, notifications, hardware, and filesystem information (panProducts, panNotifications, panHw, panFs) that child MIBs populate. Its relevance to hardware/software status monitoring is indirect: the panHw and panFs branches signal that hardware health (e.g., blade/shelf/drive status) and parallel filesystem status are the intended monitoring domains for the broader Panasas MIB family, even though this root module itself doesn't expose those details. It has an inherent structural dependency on being the parent registration point for all other Panasas-specific MIB modules. It is deployed alongside the rest of the Panasas MIB suite in environments running Panasas ActiveStor parallel storage clusters, typically in HPC and media/rendering environments. Engineers can download the PANASAS-ROOT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PANASAS-ROOT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Panasas ActiveStor parallel storage cluster
Monitoring Examples
This module itself defines only branch/registration nodes -- panProducts, panNotifications, panHw, and panFs -- rather than runtime data objects, so it should be treated honestly as a structural root rather than a source of pollable monitoring values. An administrator would not poll this module directly for status; instead they would look under the panHw and panFs branches (populated by other Panasas MIBs) for actual hardware and filesystem health data.
