Category: CPE/Router

Description: Defines product OID registrations for the PacketFront Systems broadband CPE product line.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PACKETFRONT-PRODUCTS-MIB?

PACKETFRONT-PRODUCTS-MIB is a PacketFront Systems (broadband access/CPE vendor, later part of Zhone/DZS) registration MIB that defines the sysObjectID OID tree identifying each hardware product model, such as the ASR (Access Service Router) 4100/4200 series CPE units. It does not carry runtime performance or status data itself; instead it provides product identifiers other PacketFront MIBs and standard MIB-II sysObjectID reporting reference to identify which hardware model an agent is running. Its monitoring value is therefore indirect: it lets a management system determine device identity/hardware model as a prerequisite for the hardware and software status reporting done by other, functional PacketFront MIBs. It depends on and is referenced alongside SNMPv2-SMI/MIB-II conventions (sysObjectID) and other PacketFront functional MIBs. It is used in broadband service provider deployments to inventory and distinguish PacketFront ASR-series CPE routers/switches by exact model. Engineers can download the PACKETFRONT-PRODUCTS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PACKETFRONT-PRODUCTS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • PacketFront ASR-series broadband CPE router/switch

Monitoring Examples

A management platform would read the agent's sysObjectID and match it against entries like asr4108C, asr4116C, or asr4224FM defined in this MIB to determine the exact hardware model deployed at a customer site, driving model-specific polling logic or firmware-compatibility checks. Because this MIB is purely a product-identification registration tree, it exposes no pollable performance counters or fault objects of its own. Distinguishing an asr4108C from an asr4216FM this way lets an NMS apply the correct interface-count or capability profile for that unit.
