Category: Out-of-Band Management
Description: Monitors environmental sensor values including temperature, humidity, and power input on Opengear appliances.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is OG-SENSOR-MIB?
OG-SENSOR-MIB is a vendor MIB from Opengear, used on its console server and out-of-band management appliances to expose environmental sensor readings. It presents a table of discrete sensor entries covering values such as temperature, humidity, voltage, and other analog inputs wired into the device. This makes it directly useful for monitoring the hardware health of the appliance itself and any attached environmental probes, since operators can track temperature excursions or power input anomalies that could indicate cooling failures or impending hardware damage. It also defines notification objects so that sensor threshold crossings can be pushed as SNMP traps rather than only polled. It is typically deployed alongside other Opengear management MIBs in data center or remote-site out-of-band management setups where physical environment monitoring of the rack or enclosure matters. Engineers can download the OG-SENSOR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in OG-SENSOR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Opengear console server
- Opengear out-of-band management appliance
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll ogsensStatusTable, walking ogsensStatusEntry rows indexed by ogsensStatusIndex, to read ogsensStatusName (the sensor label), ogsensStatusDevType and ogsensStatusType (what kind of sensor it is), and ogsensStatusValue (the current reading). A sudden rise in a temperature-type ogsensStatusValue entry, for example, would reveal an overheating chassis or failed cooling in the rack housing the Opengear unit. The ogsensMibNotifications group can also be configured to fire a trap when such a value crosses a defined threshold.
What Can Be Monitored
- sensor temperature readings
- humidity levels
- power input voltage
- sensor type and device class
- per-sensor status value
