Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-NetSentryMIB is a Nortel-proprietary MIB for the MscPassport (Magellan Passport) carrier switching platform, covering the NetSentry feature used for traffic policing and access filtering. It exposes configuration and statistics data for policing/filtering components, including provisioning entries that define drop conditions for traffic violating configured policy, and a statistics table tracking the resulting counts. Its monitoring value centers on traffic-policy enforcement visibility: administrators use it to confirm which filtering/policing rules are provisioned and active (via row status and component naming) and to track how much traffic is being dropped or policed, revealing both attack/abuse traffic and overly aggressive filtering causing legitimate traffic loss. As a legacy Nortel carrier-platform MIB, it has no significant dependency on IETF standard MIBs, operating within Nortel's own MscPassport management framework. The mscVrNsProvTable/mscVrNsProvEntry with mscVrNsDropConditions defines what traffic conditions trigger a drop, and mscVrNsStatsTable/mscVrNsStatsEntry provides the resulting drop/match counters. A sharp rise in drop statistics for a given component would indicate either an active attack being filtered as intended, or an overly strict drop condition inadvertently blocking legitimate traffic.
