What Is Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-VirtualRouterMIB?

This MIB manages virtual router (VR) instances on Nortel's (later Alcatel-Lucent) MsCarrier Passport multiservice switching platform, a carrier-grade routing/switching product line. Categories exposed include VR provisioning/configuration (row creation and lifecycle state), SNMP management access control per VR, and VPN/intranet identifier binding for each virtual router. It emphasizes monitoring the software-defined status of each VR instance — whether it is active, being created, or being destroyed, and whether SNMP management is enabled for it — functioning as a health/provisioning check on the Passport's virtualized routing layer rather than physical sensors. Monitoring Examples

An admin would walk mscVrRowStatusTable indexed by mscVrIndex to see which virtual router instances exist and their mscVrRowStatus (active, notInService, createAndGo), revealing whether a customer's VR was successfully provisioned or is stuck mid-creation. Polling mscVrAdminContorlTable's mscVrSnmpAdminStatus and mscVrManagementAccess shows whether SNMP-based management is enabled for a given VR, useful for diagnosing why it isn't responding to management traffic. mscVrVirtualPrivateIntranetIdentifier ties a VR instance to its VPN/intranet identifier, letting an operator confirm the virtual router is bound to the correct customer VPN. A VR row stuck in a transitional mscVrRowStatus or an unexpected mscVrStorageType would indicate a provisioning failure on the Passport node.
