What Is Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-DisdnNI2MIB?

Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-DisdnNI2MIB defines SNMP objects for National ISDN-2 (NI2) signaling channel management on Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport switches, covering the North American ISDN D-channel signaling variant used to set up and tear down calls. It exposes row status/provisioning tables for each NI2 signaling channel, a Layer-2 (Q.921) table with protocol timers T200, T23, and N200, and a framer sub-component reflecting physical-layer synchronization. This lets an operator monitor whether an NI2 signaling channel is provisioned and active, verify its Layer-2 timer configuration, and check framer synchronization state -- together indicating the health of the ISDN signaling protocol stack and the underlying physical line hardware. It depends on the National ISDN-2 (Bellcore/Telcordia) signaling standard for its semantics, in addition to the Passport RowStatus/StorageType conventions. It is used on Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport switches providing NI2 ISDN access/trunk signaling in North American carrier networks, where operators can download the Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-DisdnNI2MIB file for use in their SNMP management systems.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-MsCarrier-MscPassport-DisdnNI2MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel MsCarrier MscPassport switch (NI2 ISDN signaling)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls mscDataSigChanNi2RowStatusTable to confirm an NI2 signaling channel is active, then checks mscDataSigChanNi2L2Table's mscDataSigChanNi2T200, mscDataSigChanNi2T23, and mscDataSigChanNi2N200 values to verify Layer-2 retransmission and timer settings. Frequent T200 expirations approaching the N200 retry limit would indicate an unstable D-channel link. The mscDataSigChanNi2Framer sub-component confirms whether the underlying physical line is correctly framed and synchronized.

What Can Be Monitored

  • signaling channel status
  • Q.921 Layer-2 timer values (T200, T23, N200)
  • framer synchronization state
  • component storage type
