Category: Nortel Magellan Passport, System Management & Provisioning

Description: Provides SNMP objects for software version management and image loading on Nortel Magellan Passport switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-SoftwareMIB?

This MIB manages software version control and image loading on Nortel Magellan Passport multiservice switches, making it a core software-status monitoring module. It exposes swAvlTable listing available software loads/versions on the node, and swOperTable carrying swTidyStatus and swAvBeingTidied, which report whether housekeeping/cleanup of old software images is in progress. Its monitoring focus is squarely on software health: which firmware/software versions are present, whether a download or load operation (swDld) is progressing, and whether cleanup of stale images is stuck, all of which are critical during firmware upgrade windows. It depends on the Passport component/RowStatus model and interacts with the file-system MIB, since software images are stored on switch disk partitions. It is deployed on Magellan Passport processor cards for firmware/image management during upgrades and routine maintenance. Engineers can download the Nortel-Magellan-Passport-SoftwareMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-Magellan-Passport-SoftwareMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Magellan Passport multiservice switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls swAvlTable to enumerate available software loads/versions on a Passport node, and checks swOperTable/swOperEntry for swTidyStatus and swAvBeingTidied to confirm whether cleanup of old software versions is in progress or stuck. The swDld branch tracks the state of an active software download/load operation. If a download does not progress, or swRowStatus for the target software component remains notInService after a load attempt, it indicates the software image failed to install correctly on that switch.
