Category: Nortel Magellan Passport, PPP

Description: Provides SNMP management objects for PPP link configuration and statistics on Nortel Magellan Passport wide-area switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-PppMIB?

Nortel-Magellan-Passport-PppMIB provides SNMP management objects for PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) link configuration and statistics on Nortel Magellan Passport wide-area switches. It defines row status/provisioning tables for PPP link components, a customer-identifier data table associating PPP links with customer circuits, and an interface-entry table that ties the PPP component to the standard ifTable. This enables an operator to monitor whether a PPP link component is provisioned and operational, confirm customer-to-circuit mapping, and correlate PPP link status with standard interface statistics from IF-MIB, which is effectively hardware/link-status monitoring for WAN serial ports running PPP. It depends on the IF-MIB interface model for its ifEntry linkage in addition to the Passport RowStatus/StorageType conventions used throughout the family. It is deployed on Nortel Magellan Passport switches providing PPP-based WAN links in carrier and enterprise wide-area networks. Engineers can download the Nortel-Magellan-Passport-PppMIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-Magellan-Passport-PppMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Magellan Passport WAN switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls pppRowStatusTable to verify a PPP link component (via pppIndex) is active and checks pppCidDataTable's pppCustomerIdentifier to confirm which customer circuit the link serves. Cross-referencing pppIfEntryTable links the PPP component to its corresponding ifTable entry so standard interface error/traffic counters can be correlated with PPP link health. A PPP component stuck in a non-active row status typically indicates a down or misconfigured serial link.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PPP link component status
  • customer identifier mapping
  • linked interface entry
  • component storage type
