Category: Hardware Inventory

Description: Manages Nortel Magellan Passport file system storage, partition management, and file transfer operations.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-FileSystemMIB?

This MIB is part of the Nortel Magellan Passport multiservice switch family and manages the onboard file system - storage partitions, disks, and file transfer operations used to hold software images, logs, and configuration data. It exposes fsStateTable, which carries the administrative, operational, and usage state of file-system components such as disks (fsDisk), alongside fsRowStatusTable for creating or removing file-system component instances. This is directly a hardware/software status MIB: it lets operators see whether a disk or partition is in service, disabled, or nearing capacity, which is essential for catching storage exhaustion or a failing disk before it blocks software loads or log writes. It builds on the core Passport component/RowStatus conventions shared across the Magellan Passport MIB suite. It is deployed on Passport processor/disk cards, where Nortel-Magellan-Passport-FileSystemMIB SNMP monitoring tracks local storage health during normal operation and software maintenance windows.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-Magellan-Passport-FileSystemMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Magellan Passport multiservice switch
  • Passport processor/disk card

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls fsStateTable/fsStateEntry for a disk component identified via fsComponentName to read fsAdminState, fsOperationalState, and fsUsageState, showing whether a partition (fsDisk) is in service and how full it is. fsRowStatusTable controls creation of file-system partitions, with fsStorageType indicating permanence. An fsOperationalState of disabled, or fsUsageState reporting busy/full on a critical partition, signals storage exhaustion or a failing disk that could block software loads.

What Can Be Monitored

  • disk/partition admin state
  • disk/partition operational state
  • disk usage state (full/busy)
  • file system component row status
  • storage type
