What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-DisdnETSIMIB?

This Nortel Magellan Passport module manages ISDN signaling channels conforming to the ETSI DSS1 (Digital Subscriber Signaling System No. 1) protocol standard on Passport platforms, covering data signaling channel configuration for ETSI-compliant ISDN interfaces. It exposes provisioning/row-status tables (dataSigChanEtsiRowStatusTable) and Layer-2 signaling parameter tables (dataSigChanEtsiL2Table) including protocol timers such as T200, T23, and N200 retransmission/retry counts used in DSS1 Layer 2 (LAPD) operation. Its monitoring value is protocol-configuration and link-status verification: confirming ISDN signaling channels are correctly provisioned and active, and that Layer 2 timer/counter values are set to expected values, since misconfigured timers can cause signaling instability or dropped ISDN calls. This module explicitly depends on and conforms to the ETSI DSS1 standard, an ITU/ETSI-defined ISDN signaling specification, layered onto the Passport's common row-status/component MIB conventions. It was deployed on Nortel Magellan Passport switches providing ISDN connectivity in European (ETSI-region) telecom networks, and a Nortel-Magellan-Passport-DisdnETSIMIB download is generally needed to compile these ETSI DSS1 objects into legacy Passport management tools.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-Magellan-Passport-DisdnETSIMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Magellan Passport ISDN switch (ETSI DSS1 signaling)

Monitoring Examples

An engineer diagnosing unstable ISDN signaling would check dataSigChanEtsiL2Table (dataSigChanEtsiL2Entry) for the configured dataSigChanEtsiT200, dataSigChanEtsiT23, and dataSigChanEtsiN200 values on a data signaling channel, since an overly aggressive T200 timer or N200 retry count can cause excessive frame retransmissions. Polling dataSigChanEtsiRowStatusTable would confirm whether the signaling channel row is active; a channel stuck in a non-active state would explain a failure to establish ISDN signaling on that interface.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ISDN signaling channel row status
  • Layer 2 timer T200/T23
  • Layer 2 retry count N200
  • data signaling channel provisioning
