OBJECT-TYPE

What Is Nortel-Magellan-Passport-DataIsdnMIB?

Nortel-Magellan-Passport-DataIsdnMIB manages ISDN B-channel data signaling configuration on the Magellan Passport switch family, covering the data signaling channel components used for ISDN data call setup. It exposes RowStatus provisioning tables, free-text comment fields, and customer identifier association tables for each signaling channel component. The MIB's practical monitoring value is in exposing the operational/row status of each ISDN data channel, since confirming a channel component is active and correctly provisioned is the primary way to detect a failed or misconfigured B-channel before it affects call setup, functioning much like a service health check for the ISDN signaling stack. It follows the shared Magellan Passport component/RowStatus conventions and layers on top of ITU-T ISDN signaling concepts. It is used on Magellan Passport switches providing ISDN data access in carrier and enterprise WAN deployments. Management tools that resolve object names in this space rely on the Nortel-Magellan-Passport-DataIsdnMIB OID tree to correctly identify each ISDN data signaling table and its indexing columns.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Nortel-Magellan-Passport-DataIsdnMIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • ISDN data signaling channel row status
  • channel provisioning parameters
  • customer identifier per channel
  • operator comment text
  • component storage type

Supported Devices

  • Nortel Magellan Passport WAN switch
  • ISDN access node

Monitoring Examples

An engineer polls dataSigChanRowStatusTable/dataSigChanRowStatusEntry to verify a data signaling channel component (indexed by dataSigChanIndex) is active, and reviews dataSigChanCommentText for operator notes on a suspect channel. dataSigChanCidDataTable/dataSigChanCidDataEntry with its customer identifier links the channel to a specific subscriber's ISDN service, so if a customer reports failed data calls, the operator cross-checks dataSigChanProvTable/dataSigChanProvEntry provisioning parameters against the expected configuration.

U32 dataSigChanCcCgCustomerIdentifier1.3.6.1.4.1.562.2.4.1.120.2.2.10.1.1Unsigned32read-writeThis attribute holds the Customer Identifier (CID). Every component has a CID. If a component has a cid attribute, the component's CID is the provisioned value of that attribute; otherwise the component inherits the CID of its parent. The top- level component has a CID of 0. Every operator session also has a CID, which is the CID provisioned for the operator's user ID. An operator will see only the stream data for components having a matching CID. Also, the operator will be allowed to issue commands for only those components which have a matching CID. An operator CID of 0 is used to identify the Network Manager (referred to as 'NetMan' in DPN). This CID matches the CID of any component. Values 1 to 8191 inclusive (equivalent to 'basic CIDs' in DPN) may be assigned to specific customers.

U32 dataSigChanCustomerIdentifier1.3.6.1.4.1.562.2.4.1.120.101.1.1Unsigned32read-writeThis attribute holds the Customer Identifier (CID). Values 1 to 8191 inclusive (equivalent to 'basic CIDs' in DPN) may be assigned to specific customers.
dataSigChanIfEntryTable1.3.6.1.4.1.562.2.4.1.120.102not-accessibleThis group contains the provisionable attributes for the ifEntry.
dataSigChanIfEntryEntry1.3.6.1.4.1.562.2.4.1.120.102.1not-accessibleAn entry in the dataSigChanIfEntryTable.
INT dataSigChanIfAdminStatus1.3.6.1.4.1.562.2.4.1.120.102.1.1INTEGERread-writeThe desired state of the interface. The up state indicates the interface is operational. The down state indicates the interface is not operational. The testing state indicates that no operational packets can be passed.
NUM dataSigChanIfIndex1.3.6.1.4.1.562.2.4.1.120.102.1.2InterfaceIndexread-onlyThis is the index for the IfEntry. Its value is automatically initialized during the provisioning process.
dataSigChanStateTable1.3.6.1.4.1.562.2.4.1.120.103not-accessibleThis group contains the three OSI State attributes. The descriptions generically indicate what each state attribute implies about the component. Note that not all the values and state combinations described here are supported by every component which uses this group. For component-specific information and the valid state combinations, refer to NTP 241-7001-150, Passport Operations and Maintenance Guide.
dataSigChanStateEntry1.3.6.1.4.1.562.2.4.1.120.103.1not-accessibleAn entry in the dataSigChanStateTable.
INT dataSigChanAdminState1.3.6.1.4.1.562.2.4.1.120.103.1.1INTEGERread-onlyThis attribute indicates the OSI Administrative State of the component. The value locked indicates that the component is administratively prohibited from providing services for its users. A Lock or Lock - force command has been previously issued for this component. When the value is locked, the value of usageState must be idle. The value shuttingDown indicates that the component is administratively permitted to provide service to its existing users only. A Lock command was issued against the component and it is in the process of shutting down. The value unlocked indicates that the component is administratively permitted to provide services for its users. To enter this state, issue an Unlock command to this component.
INT dataSigChanOperationalState1.3.6.1.4.1.562.2.4.1.120.103.1.2INTEGERread-onlyThis attribute indicates the OSI Operational State of the component. The value enabled indicates that the component is available for operation. Note that if adminState is locked, it would still not be providing service. The value disabled indicates that the component is not available for operation. For example, something is wrong with the component itself, or with another component on which this one depends. If the value is disabled, the usageState must be idle.
INT dataSigChanUsageState1.3.6.1.4.1.562.2.4.1.120.103.1.3INTEGERread-onlyThis attribute indicates the OSI Usage State of the component. The value idle indicates that the component is not currently in use. The value active indicates that the component is in use and has spare capacity to provide for additional users. The value busy indicates that the component is in use and has no spare operating capacity for additional users at this time.
dataSigChanOperStatusTable1.3.6.1.4.1.562.2.4.1.120.104not-accessibleThis group includes the Operational Status attribute. This attribute defines the current operational state of this component.
