What Is NORTEL-NMI-NOTIFICATIONS-MIB?

NORTEL-NMI-NOTIFICATIONS-MIB is a Nortel enterprise MIB that serves as the master notification registry for the Nortel Network Management Interface (NMI), defining the OID branches for all NMI traps spanning configuration, fault, and informational events, along with a notification sequence number variable. Rather than exposing polled hardware/software status objects, its purpose is to organize and number the trap definitions used across the wider NMI MIB family, and to expose a sequence-number object that lets a management station detect missed or out-of-order traps. Its monitoring relevance is therefore about fault/event status - it is what a management station relies on to catch fault or configuration-change traps emitted by other NMI MIBs and to verify none were dropped via the sequence number. Compiling the NORTEL-NMI-NOTIFICATIONS-MIB file is a structural dependency for other Nortel NMI MIBs that define the actual trap OBJECT-TYPE/NOTIFICATION-TYPE payloads. A monitoring station would primarily use this MIB by subscribing to the traps it registers and cross-checking the sequence number to ensure fault/config-change events were not missed.
