What Is NORTEL-NMI-TC-MIB?
NORTEL-NMI-TC-MIB is a Nortel proprietary textual-conventions module that underlies Nortel's generic Network Management Interface (NMI) MIB family, spanning Nortel's carrier and enterprise networking equipment. It does not itself define managed objects with runtime values; instead it defines shared data types for severity levels, event types, and notification categories used consistently across other Nortel NMI MIBs. Because it carries no instance data, it is not directly used to monitor hardware or software status, but the severity and event-type conventions it defines are what allow fault and alarm objects in dependent Nortel MIBs to report device health, alarms, and status changes in a standardized way. It is a foundational dependency for the broader Nortel NMI MIB suite, which does expose hardware/software status through its own object definitions. It is deployed wherever Nortel network elements (switches, routers, optical/carrier equipment) use the NMI management framework, as a prerequisite loaded before the functional NMI MIBs, and MIB compilers resolving a NORTEL-NMI-TC-MIB OID reference must load this module first to satisfy the import.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NORTEL-NMI-TC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral within the Nortel product family; supports Nortel carrier and enterprise network elements generally, not a specific device model
Monitoring Examples
This is a textual-conventions-only support module with no runtime data objects of its own (no sample objects were provided), so there is no direct monitoring scenario; its severity and event-type enumerations are instead referenced by other Nortel NMI MIBs' alarm and status tables to classify reported faults.
