Description: Defines SNMP trap notifications for EoC master and slave registration and presence events in NMS EPON optical access systems
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NMS-EPON-EOC-TRAP?
NMS-EPON-EOC-TRAP is a notification-only MIB defining SNMP traps for Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) master and slave device registration and presence events within an EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) access system. Its content is limited to trap/notification definitions -- such as an EoC master registering or deregistering -- rather than a set of polled data tables, so its data category is strictly fault/event notification, not general interface, environment, or performance data. Its monitoring value is entirely about software/network-topology status: these traps tell an EPON headend or NMS the moment an EoC master or its subordinate slave devices join or drop off the coax network segment, which is essential for tracking last-mile connectivity to subscriber-side equipment. As an EPON/EoC extension it depends conceptually on the broader EPON system MIB(s) that model the ONU/OLT and EoC master/slave inventory this trap module reports events against. It is deployed in EPON access networks where an EoC master converts the optical PON drop to coax for in-home distribution, monitored centrally by the operator's NMS. Engineers can download the NMS-EPON-EOC-TRAP file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMS-EPON-EOC-TRAP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) access systems
- EoC (Ethernet-over-Coax) master/slave units
Monitoring Examples
Since this module defines only trap notifications with no sample data objects, there is no polled table to describe; instead, an NMS would subscribe to receive the EoC master registration/deregistration traps. In practice, an operator's trap receiver would log an event when an EoC master or slave joins the network the moment it powers up and registers, and again if it unexpectedly deregisters -- the latter serving as an outage indicator for that subscriber's EoC segment. A burst of deregistration traps across multiple slaves tied to one master would suggest a fault on the master unit itself rather than in the subscriber premises.
