Category: Network Management

Description: Manages system configuration backup, restore, and provisioning operations on Net Insight Nimbra media transport nodes.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NETI-CONFIG-MIB?

NETI-CONFIG-MIB manages configuration backup, restore, and provisioning operations on Net Insight Nimbra media transport nodes, providing SNMP-based control over the device's saved configuration files. It exposes status data such as whether the running configuration has unsaved changes, when the current configuration was last modified, and a table of locally stored configuration snapshots with names, descriptions, creation times, and sizes. This is fundamentally a software/configuration-state monitoring MIB: administrators use it to check whether a device is running with unsaved (at-risk) changes, and to audit the inventory and health of saved configuration backups, a key part of confirming a device's software state is consistent and recoverable. As an early-stage/vendor-specific model, it has no explicit cross-MIB dependency but conceptually parallels standard configuration-management approaches. It is deployed on Net Insight Nimbra transport nodes in broadcast and telecom networks where configuration integrity and rollback capability are operationally critical. Engineers can download the NETI-CONFIG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETI-CONFIG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Net Insight Nimbra media transport node

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls configStatusIsCurrentUnsaved to check if the running configuration diverges from the last saved one, and configStatusCurrentLastChangedTime to see how recently it was modified; a persistently true unsaved flag after a maintenance window indicates an incomplete or forgotten save operation. Walking configLocalTable/configLocalEntry by configLocalIndex reveals each saved configuration's configLocalName, configLocalCreatedTime, and configLocalSize, letting the operator confirm a recent backup exists before a risky change. configLocalAdminStatus shows whether a given saved configuration is active/available for restore, and configLocalTableNrOfConfigs indicates whether the device is approaching any storage limit on saved configs.

What Can Be Monitored

  • unsaved configuration change flag
  • last configuration change time
  • list of saved configuration snapshots
  • saved configuration size and creation time
  • saved configuration admin status
  • number of stored configurations

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using configLocalTableNrOfConfigs OID:

Select a Net Insight media transport node as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type configLocalTableNrOfConfigs into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The number of configurations currently in the configuration table. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Gauge32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
