Last Updated: 2005-03-09
Category: Network Management, Products/Registration
Description: Provides Nagios enterprise root OID registration and MIB module hierarchy.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NAGIOS-ROOT-MIB?
NAGIOS-ROOT-MIB is the Nagios(tm) NMS proprietary MIB (enterprise OID 20006) defining the base enterprise OID root under which Nagios's SNMP trap/notification objects are registered. It carries no data objects of its own — as a structural registration MIB it exists so companion Nagios MIBs can register consistent OIDs under the shared enterprise branch. It underlies Nagios monitoring deployments that send or receive SNMP traps. Engineers can download the NAGIOS-ROOT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NAGIOS-ROOT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples
A MIB browser loads NAGIOS-ROOT-MIB automatically when parsing a companion Nagios trap MIB, resolving the OID branch those modules' notifications are registered under.
