Description: Manages BATM Advanced Communication MAC address security configuration including static/dynamic MAC limits and violation actions.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is PRVT-MAC-SECURITY-MIB?

PRVT-MAC-SECURITY-MIB is a vendor-specific enterprise MIB from BATM Advanced Communication for configuring port-level MAC address security, including learned-address limits, static/dynamic handling, and violation actions, on its Carrier Ethernet switches. It exposes named learning profiles with maximum and watermark MAC-count thresholds and configured violation actions, plus a per-interface table binding profiles to ports. Its monitoring relevance is primarily security/operational-status oriented: watching a port's learned MAC count approach its configured watermark, or seeing a violation action trigger, signals a possible MAC-flooding attack or misbehaving device on that port. It shares the BATM PRVT enterprise MIB tree with related modules such as PRVT-ALARM-MIB, where such violations are likely surfaced as alarms. It is typically deployed on BATM Carrier Ethernet access switches, where PRVT-MAC-SECURITY-MIB SNMP monitoring helps guard against MAC-flooding and address-table exhaustion attacks.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PRVT-MAC-SECURITY-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • BATM Advanced Communication Carrier Ethernet switches

Monitoring Examples

prvtMacSecLrnProfTable/prvtMacSecLrnProfEntry rows define named profiles (prvtMacSecLrnProfName) with prvtMacSecLrnProfMaxMacCount and prvtMacSecLrnProfWatermarkCount thresholds and a configured prvtMacSecLrnProfAction/prvtMacSecLrnProfWatermarkAction, while prvtMacSecIfTable/prvtMacSecIfEntry bind these profiles to specific interfaces. An admin would poll a port's learned MAC count against prvtMacSecLrnProfWatermarkCount to catch it approaching its learning limit before prvtMacSecLrnProfAction (e.g. shutdown or drop) is enforced and legitimate traffic is disrupted.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MAC learning profile configuration
  • max/watermark MAC count per port
  • violation action taken
  • per-interface MAC security binding
  • MAC security notifications
